The Great Central Railway is the UK's only double track mainline heritage railway. Its southern terminus is on the northern  outskirts of Leicester at Birstal where a new station was built in the 1980s.  The building was erected in the late 1990s and as funds permit is being developed in the style of a Great Central Railway station.  In 2008 Able Engineering won the contract to fabricate and erect the station canopy support steelwork.  Site erection commenced on the 5th January 2009.  The Great Central Railway provided craneage and slinging.
On the 6th August 2009 the station was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Leicester and the Mayor of Charnwood.

Loughborough Central Station
Loughborough Central Station station was built by the Great Central Railway in 1898.  After over a century of use the canopy is showing its age with the more exposed sections of the structural steelwork seriously wasted in places.
In May 2010 Able Engineering started the first stage of the refurbishment of the structural steelwork.
